My wife underwrote me but immediately after the Affidavit of Support was approved at the NVC, she lost her job and did not get another for five months.

Our case was completed at the NVC and we’re now waiting to be booked for the hearing, but later after submitting all the necessary documents, including the affidavit of support to NVC, my wife lost her job. She remained jobless and, after five months, got another job!

Will the unemployment situation she went through work against us in the impending interview? Should the consular inquire where my wife works, what should I answer, the current job or the old one? Am I supposed to bring a proof from the current job showing that she is indeed working?

Answer:  Ordinarily, during Immigration Visa Application case, after applying for the Affidavit of Support, the application accepted and completed at the NVC level, it’s highly unlikely it’ll be brought up again at the consular interview stage. The reason is, since the processing and scrutinizing of Affidavit of Support is completed at the NVC stage, it is hardly (if at all it is) raised again at the Immigration Visa interview stage at the USA consulate. Should the Consulate personnel, however, want to know where your wife works, be sincere and tell her about the new position/job. You should also bring along with you the proof of the new post where your wife is working at currently.
